On 02nd February, ECCA held a Chinese New Year Reception in partnership with Confucius Institute for Scotland. With the theme of Night of Culture and festival atmosphere of red lantern, spring couplets and happiness character, all guests from the areas of culture, education, and media enjoyed Chinese traditional music, dance festival snack, and Chinese tea, also improved their understanding about Chinese traditions.
The distinguished guests included Mr. Huazhong Zhang, Deputy Consul General of China, Councillor Deidre Brock, Deputy Lord Provost of Edinburgh City Council, Professor Natascha Gentz, Director of Confucius Institute for Scotland, Dr Kevin McLoughlin, Principal Curator, East and Central Asia, National Museum Scotland, Janice Dickson, Chair of Scotland China Association, the Headmasters of all three Chinese Schools in Edinburgh, and Professor Chenxiang Wang, representatives from Edinburgh Chinese Association of Professionals, as well as Song Hou, the Chair of Edinburgh University Chinese Student Union.
Mr Zhang, Deputy Consul General, Councillor Brock, and Professor Gentz, as well as Ms. Xu, Chair of ECCA, all addressed to the guests to deliver the good wishes for Year of Horse, and to appreciate the efforts by ECCA, Confucius Institute, together with all guests here to promote the Chinese culture and strengthen the friendship between Chinese community and mainstream society.
The cooperation between ECCA and Confucius Institute shapes a good model for the partnership between local Chinese community charity and mainstream society, to promote the Chinese culture and traditions. More importantly, we endeavor to build a platform to encourage the local Chinese community to engage with main society to improve the profile of Chinese people and enhance the collaboration and friendship between Chinese community and Scotland.
